| Post subject: | Rebuild Kits for Holley 1945 |
Hey fellas, I'm just wondering if anyone knows the best place for me to buy a rebuild kit for my Holley 1945...I've heard it might be better to just go with a new 1920, but I want the experience of rebuilding the carb, along with the fact that I simply don't have enough money to buy a new carb. I've found this one: http://www.carbkitsource.com/carbs/kits/CK122.htm But I'm not sure what it includes as absolutely nothing is stated on the website. I've never rebuilt a carb before either, so any hints would be great! I know I have problems with my accelerator pump, so is there something I should be buying to replace that, or will it come included with a rebuild kit? Thanks in advance, much appreciated! |

Walker carb kits are very good carb kits. Orielley's sells them. go to there site and put in your car info if that is the stock carb. If you can, drill out the idle feed restriction to give about 10% increase in cross sectional area. You can identify the idle channel by looking at the top of the carb main body with the top cover removed. At the gasket surface, you will see a channel on the side of the body that houses the idle adjustment screw. Spray some carb cleaner on this channel to positively identify it. This will improve your off idle and slow speed performance. Mitch |

Oh really? Thanks! What exactly does this channel do, and how large of a drill bit should I be using? And how far down do I drill? Just hard to get an idea of what to do since I don't have the carb with me and have never seen any carb apart, let alone this one. |

The idle feed restriction is like an idle jet. It controls the amount of fuel allowed into the idle circuit. The idle circuit is active not only during idle, but also during part throttle before the main metering system comes fully on line. All of the 1945s of this era are setup lean from the factory and enlarging the IFR is like changing the idle/low speed jet. I will have to look at my notes from long ago, but you will need wire drill - something below a number 40. Mitch |

And I'm stuck again. O'reilly's does not ship to Canada...which is fine; I can just ship to the UPS store in Ogdensburg and pick it up. However, they also do not accept Canadian credit cards. Fantastic. Any other suggestions on where to buy the kit? This is getting a little frustrating... |

I just bought a walker rebuild kit for my Holly 1945 and honestly I'm not very impressed with it. The gaskets are not identical and I had to cut them to make them fit which shouldn't be the case in my opinion. |
