Post subject:  Distributor can be turned by hand? bolt is tight.

Hi

Installed the Aircleaner today and adjusted the timing. The 7/16" bolt beside the distributor is fully tighten but I could still turn the dist by hand! Am I missing something? Is there another bolt holding the dist in place? Thanks.

Take a look at the underside of the distributor and the claw arrangement, to see if the clamp is right.

HERE's a photo of one variation. Note the bolt going up into the distributor. That gives two points of adjustment.

If you are clever, and lucky, you can get a 7/16" box end wrench on that bottom bolt without taking our the distributor.

I've never managed to achieve that - I'll have to get some dead skinny spann - I mean wrenches  .

I do have a steering column in the way though.

On the backward American versions, I think you must remove the oil filter to do this. It kind of fits in nicely with an oil change. I change my filter more often than I change oil though.
