Are they really necessary? |

Yes. If you will ask a more detailed question so we know what you have in mind to do, we'll probably be able to give you a more detailed answer. |

I got one of these http://www.kmjent.com/cart/product.php? ... 545&page=1 They dont have baffles, I've run a few slants with the vc off and haven't seen anything to lead me to believe they are necessary. anyhow it's gonna be mostly a strip car. Limited street use. |

Put the stock valve cover back on -- those Chinese chrome ones are junk. See Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3. If you are bound and determined to use the chrome valve cover on your engine, and if you can hack the bolt holes so they line up OK, then set up the breather and PCV this way. |

If it is limited street use, then no worries on the baffles. You can get a baffled grommet for the breather hole, if driving a lot on the street/hwy. I have been running one of those trans-dapt/no-name VC's for about 20 yrs on my '68 and '64 Darts (about 250k miles combined). I agree that the factory style is better designed, but personal experience says the others are fine too. Maybe the later made ones are worse, but they look like what I have. Lou |

I run one as well but like Dan suggested using the sealed Spectre PCV and the sealed air breather connected to another filter inside the air cleaner filter housing with baffled grommets. Reference: Spectre Breather w/Dorman #42344 gasket 11/2008 This is the PCV unit I used http://www.spectreperformance.com/#CATALOG.4284 With this air breather http://www.spectreperformance.com/#CATALOG.4279 and the Spectre Valve Cover. You could also JB Weld or bolt in a baffle as well. Click on the red link below to view both set ups (stock and with the chrome Spectre Valve Cover. |

I have the GM PCV do-dad on mine. I have a MP breather. Yes, you get a little oil coming out of it. No big deal. Take a nice clean rag and wipe it down. It keeps it from rusting! |
