Post subject:  balancer and throttle linkage
Hello, I've got a few questions. 65 Valiant Base.

First- Today while putting on the harmonic balancer i got it almost all the way on (could be all the way but the damn autozone tool rental broke when it got tight) :roll:
However when I put on thee water pump pulley the WP pulley sticks out a bit more than the HB.. about the thickness of the V-Belt. Is the HB in too far? or is the WP shaft too long and not allowing everything to line up??

Second- Ive upgraded to a 2bbl manifold and carb from my 1bbl. Its a manual tranny so not worried for kickdown, however is there a new throttle cable that I will need to invest in before she will run?

Thank you for ANY information you may have. :)

Ps. both WP and HB pulleys are original and not damaged in any way. I used the proper HB install tool to put on.

Thanks, ive read that but now that its time to get the parts I should have referred back to that page..

I noticed if I dont use my fan spacer the pulleys damn near line up even.. Can I just bolt the fan to the water pump without the spacer?

Sounds like you're trying to put the fan spacer between the water pump hub and the water pump pulley. That's backwards. Pulley goes on hub, then fan spacer on pulley, then fan on spacer.

Looks like after having the motor out/disassembled for over 5 months the order to put back together becomes well.. :?:

This why I use labeled Zip-Loc bags, Sharpie drawn hieroglyphs, and if needed paper based instructions & photos stuffed into bag. This saves countless hours trying to remember how it went together, futzing around with bolt & screw length locations, and other reassembly details.

All these subassembly bags are placed into one master file box until needed months or years later. What appears stupid simple on disassembly, often turns out to be a ball buster on reassembly.

This is what I did the first time. :oops:
Now I have no fan for the time being.

I would like to post some pictures of the carb in question as well as some engine shots. However do not see a 'upload' option. Do i need to manually enter the URL or Img code?

Im pumped for the motor.. Worried about linkage :shock: would definatly feel better having solid "this will make it work" as I have a baby due early feb and dont want a problem with a stuck throttle hurdling us into traffic.... :evil:

Tried rock auto. Entering a late 60's Valiant with/without V8. No throttle cable showed up.. :?

As much as I would like to use my new set (manifold/carb) ive got limited time... Looks like the 1bbl is going back on.. :x

Im really wanting to use this 2 barrel and as helpful/appreciated as these suggestions have been.. Im still not seeing what TYPE of linkage i need.

My question is this, Does anyone have a picture i can use as reference?

I have a 65 with a shaft style linkage. I have a 1 barrel carter, converting to a 2 barrel Carter.

I will post pictures of my exact carb as soon as I figure out how.
I am searching Ebay daily and am watching a few cables but not sure which would be closest.

Thank you in advance for any specific information

Unfortunately, you can't upload a photo directly into this forum. You must first upload it to a photo hosting site (e.g. Photobucket, a free site). Once it's there, you copy the Direct Link for a given photo, enter [img]in%20your%20post,%20paste%20the%20photo%20link,%20and%20close%20it%20with[/img]. The photo will then appear in the post.
