hello. i am picking up the block, crank and piston assemblies from the shop this weekend and am delivering the head. i am going to use Oregon cam grind 1475 (282 dur/.495 lift) and need to know if these Comp Cam springs will be good match.

If you're really pushing .495" lift those springs are going to come close to coil bind. Those springs are a bit on the soft side and won't tolerate increasing the installed height to prevent coil bind either. I would buy springs with dampers and retainers from Engnbldr.

thanks joshua. the springs presently in the head came with a crane cam from years back. the cam card below shows the spring requirements for that cam. don't have part numbers. seems to me to be quite stiff. don't want to put undue stress on the valve train. what is your opinion on using those? there is an inner and outer spring.

Those dual springs calculate to be 460lbs/in. The seat pressure is good, but the open pressure is too high. I would do the Comp 901 spring or the Engnbldr equivalent. These are a larger than stock diameter spring so the retainers will have to be changed. The Crane ones might work, but you'll have to measure and compare.

thanks again. i will go for the engbldr springs to go with the valves. i was hoping to use parts on hand, but oh well. i will keep the comp springs for a future build for my son's truck. should work okay with a .440 or so lift hydraulic cam.
