I am assembling a 225 long rod for my 84 ram- I am using a set of rings for a toyota 3.0 v6 with the 3.445 bore size- the rings only have about .010" clearance though- the instructions with the pistons indicate that with this bore size and application I should have about .028" gap on the top ring- however they do not mention the bottom ring needing this additional clearance- should I add clearance to the bottom ring also? any help will be greatly appreciated

.010 seems a little tight to me.
For a street engine, I would set the 2nd ring gap to .018 or maybe .020 if I planned to tow or run it "hard".

The motor will begin life naturally aspirated. Stage 2 of the build will be a turbo/efi setup once the motor is broken in. I think .010" is a little tight on the second ring also, however, this is the first motor I have payed much attention to this on as most other builds I have done have been stockers and I don't have something to compare it to. I would hate to run into trouble due to something small like piston ring gap.

on one of their other web pages I saw a table where they recommended ring gap depending upon use..

does anyone know off the top of their head what the stock piston ring gap would be? even though I am obviously not using the stock pistons it would be good to know what the recommended ring gaps are for a stock slant-

.012 to .017 is the range for stock pistons. if your going to run boost or high comp numbers i would run .022 top and .018 second. when they seat they will open up 3 or 4 ths more.
