Good Day All; My first is a cam selection. I have an earson tq20m that is .465 lift & 270 dur which went into my grenaded motor with these specs:block decked .080,.030 bore, oil passage mod, head shaved .080,lots of porting/polishing,big valves, hurricane intake w/holley 390,trans stage 2 rebuild, no stall,8 3/4 w/391's. The new engine is .060 bore w/.090 shaved and other than having an elelb 500 as a backup, everything else is the same. I didn't have the old combo running long enough to see how good the cam was. Is it the right choice for this one? 2nd ?: I cut the throttle cable and was wondering if the stock will work or if there is a longer one that can be used for this setup. The orig looks like Krap now. Its on a 67 dart. Thanks for any help. |

The problem with the engine measurements are: they mean nothing without 2 very important measurements to add to it: 1) when the engine was assembled what was the measurement from the deck to the top of the piston at TDC (this is called deck height and is needed to determine the volume of the cylinder/bore) 2) the CC's of the combustion chamber (measured using a piece of home depot plastic, a little grease, and a very large syringe is OK). Since deck heights vary over the years cutting .080 off the 'deck' doesn't say much... the '67 block I'm building on I had cut .120...the pistons sit .085 in the hole (I wanted .04-ish)... That being said after my new valves and seats are installed in the head I need to measure since this changes the volume of the chambe somewhat...but to make my target CR I now need to end up at about 38cc's....(which is looking like a .08-ish cut assuming the new seats and OS valves don't change things that badly). The 270/270 with the stock LSA should live fine from 9.2 compression up to 10:1 and have a bit more low end torque that the 280/270. Look over my old posts on the Hpak/Hyperpak, it sounds like you need to go junkyarding for one of the 24-30" long cables and brackets from a K-car, minivan, or early 90's Chrysler. -D.Idiot |
