Would it be possible to use a different rotor thats wider at the tip to achieve it? Has anyone done it before. It sounds like a good idea, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

No, I don't think it would. Once the spark gets the mixture lit off, it burns outwards, leaving no unburnt air/fuel next to the plug. If you had high swirl in the chamber, perhaps a longer spark would ignite more; but once the mixture is burning, I'm not seeing a gain.

Looking to the OEM's, do any of them seem to be using those MSD multiple-discharge (multiple spark) ideas? They of all people have lots to gain by getting a better burn.

Finally, it's not the rotor that triggers the spark; it's the reluctor or the (what is it called on points?). If I had to guess, everything is lined up so that the plug is fired when the rotor is centered under the brass stud that goes to the wire. The spark event ends when the coil runs out of energy.

I wasn't sure, after I posted it I started thinking about it more and came to the same conclusion. thanks for the replies
