Ok I've been doing much research, and find conflicting info regarding my question:

I have an 87 D100 with the stock hydro engine. I want to pick up a head and start porting it and get it machined so I can do a weekend swap, and not have much down time. I would like to use an older "drool tube" head for better spark plug selection, but I want to keep the hydro rockers/cam/lifters.

Is this an issue? I know that my current head uses a steeped bolt for the rocker shaft vs. the early head not using a stepped bolt. From what I have read in my research, the reason for the stepped bolt was to keep the rocker shaft from being installed incorrectly. Is this going to be an issue for me? Will I be able to use the DT head with all of the hydro gear from my motor?

I appreciate any input you may have.
Jared

PS- thank you Reed for this http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... head+hydro lots of good info. :D

Yes, you can put everything on the earlier head if you drill out the rear hole on the bottom of the rocker shaft.

Let me know if you ever want to sell that 87 head and/or engine.

There is a decent chance I'll be driving west this spring/summer and could pick up. No firm plans at the moment...

That would be great! I have always wanted to meet you,if it does happen it would be cool to hang out for a minute. I should have my new head done, and swapped by then too,so the hydro head should be available. If you make it out,you can have it.

Jared :D
