Take a look at the engine ID number stamped on the flat surface facing skyward located at the top of the block, below the bottom of the head, inboard of the alternator bracket, and under the frontmost spark plug. You'll probably have to scrape away some grease to find the stamping. |

You've got a 170 engine, and it's probably the original one to the car: the "R" indicates 1961 model year, and the "1017" means the engine was made on October 17, 1960. Your car was built on November 3, 1960 with a grey cloth/vinyl interior and "Spring Green" (kinda swimming pool green) paint, PPG paint code 42733. |
