Post subject: | Weber carb experts needed please |
I have a chance to purchase a Weber dgav 32/36 carb for a good price and would like to know it would be able to support a 225 with mild mods. The carb currently has 140 main jets and a 770 idle jet on the primary and a 760 on the secondary. The engine will have 9.5c.r.,Erson 20/270 cam stock valves,Dutra front half stock rear exaust, and mild porting. The car is a 63 Valiant with 904 and 3.21 gears. Ineed sugestions on jet sizes if this carb will even work in this application, also what did you do for accelerator linkage and kickdown linkage. The carb wil be installed on a cast iron super six intake with 2 peice aluminim adapter. Thanks in advance and as always all help is apreciated. You say you can get it for a good price. Before buying it make sure its genuine Weber. Check out this website to be sure of what your getting. http://genuineweber.blogspot.com/ Im no expert on Webers, but i have done lots of research for i am going to install one on my 86. The cheapest i could find was Carbs Unlimited http://www.carburetion.com/, that had genuine Webers. They seemed very knowlegable, i would call and talk to them. I will be ordering my kit from them. I would highly recommend not getting a progressive. There's a reason why they are called that. They start off ok.... But just get progressivly worse |

I am by no means an expert, but I do have a Weber 38DGES on my Volare's slant. I had to jet it down a couple of sizes, but so far I like it very much. |

I've got a 32/36 on my slant, jetted for a Jeep six as mentioned in the Engine FAQ under Weber Carbs. I love it. Great carb, easily a hundred times better than the crappy Carter BBS rebuild I was running. I don't know why there are so many Weber progressive bashers, but I can tell you that it's definitely a really well built carb. No problems in the least. I think all these people who talk hesitation and bogging are just running bad engines, frankly. |

Glad to hear that.I don't know why there are so many Weber progressive bashers, but I can tell you that it's definitely a really well built carb. No problems in the least. I think all these people who talk hesitation and bogging are just running bad engines, frankly. I will be going that route also. Thanks Dave |

It's a pinto Carb. And they do not run well at all, compared to something better, when tunes correctly. Every progressive I worked on, weather its a old or new motor, they just to run as well as any other Carb ive used. Yes they work, sure they can run okay. But comparing to most other setups, they are terrible, usually cost more, and a pain |

I went from a Holley 1920 to a Weber/Motorcraft 32/36 dgev from a mid-70s Ford, I now have a the Carter BBD Two barrel. It (Weber) was a bear to get tuned correctly, changing jets constantly, etc... Biggest issue was the vacuum advance, there was not a port for it on the carb. Now maybe that was a specific issue with the models put on Fords, but it made it a dog off the line. The change to a Carter BBD was dramatic over the one barrel and Weber, as is obvious by the fact that it is almost universally the first mod done to the cars (or at least on the wish list!). |
