The double filed alternator in the Dart is of unknown rating to me. There is a label stuck to top of its case inscribed with the following: Quote: 80 05 173 01
Is there any way to know its output from this label? I need to install and size a main fuse in the new power conductor connecting alternator’s power lug to starter relay’s threaded lug. From relay an under hood sub panel feeds several relays powering lights, choke and other items. Also power from starter relay retains factory routing through bulkhead connector via red conductor & fusable link. Factory black conductor connecting alternator to bulkhead connector has been removed. 20 Remanufactured 153 Next question what size fuse should I use, taking into account the under hood temperatures are high enough to cause de-rating. If alternator turns out to be say 75 amps, would a 100 amp fuse be sufficient to carry 75 amps at 100 C degrees? Bill |

No. If you want to know what it'll put out across a range of speeds, and its maximum output, you'll have to take it to an auto electrical rebuilding shop.Quote: Next question what size fuse should I use, taking into account the under hood temperatures are high enough to cause de-rating. I would think so.

I kind’ah thought bench testing maybe the only way. No problem, we have just such a shop nearby that tested it last spring when I was having over charge problems.
