Ok I am building a 65 Barracuda. It has the original 13" rims. Can anyone tell me what size tire went on those?
Thanks.

The 13" tires were usually 6.50 13s

width was 6.5" and diameter about 24.7"

Ok I spent some time doing some math (can you smell the burning?)

That would be about 18/75 R13?

If you want to stick with that rim, the direct replacement for the 6.50-13 bias-ply tire is a P185/80-13, which is now expensive to get at specialty antique tire stores. One alternative is to go to a smaller P175/70R-13 but you will have to change to a 19-tooth speedo gear to keep the speedo/odometer accurate.

Unless you are doing a concourse resto,I would go with 14" wheels. The car will handle better, and the tires are easier to get.

For 14s you want a 185 75 if they're 14 x 4.5 rims

195 70 and 205 70 work with the 14 x 5.5 rims

185 75 and 195 70 14s are very close to the original diameter.

The 205 70s are slightly larger, and tend to correct the speedometer.

The 13" dogdish hubcaps fit on the 14" factory steel wheels (non-rally type)

I just switched to 14" after I spent a ton of time trying to find 13" tires for cheap (impossible).

I did the exact same thing (go to 14") for the same reason (money). The only part I don't like is the new wheel covers. Besides that it rides a lot better. Although, that may be from the new tires...

Of course then the speedo becomes useless. I had this same car just after high school, with the same 13" wheels. I drove it for two years and never had any complaints.

Some people never complain about a lot of stuff which is mediocre, poor or even bad. Tires are how ALL the forces acting on a car are transmitted to the road. Acceleration, cornering and braking all tires. Want to make a car stop more quickly? Tires. Want to lap a road course more quickly? Tires. Too bad the car is small bolt pattern. I'd go right to a 15x7" wheel and 205/60R15 tires if the budget is there.

Josh is right. Tires are THE single most important part(s) on your car. The 13s are no fun and would be called deathly dangerous these days.

Oh and as far as the tires. Discount Tires has 185/75/13 Falken tires for $68.00 each.

The car as it sits is fine for my driving. I usually will only go to the store or a car show. For extended driving I usually just use my wifes late model Taurus.

I am not modifying anything else on the car. I have a freshly rebuilt stock motor and trans.
I am even going to paint it a factory color.

I just wish I could find some stock wheelcovers.

The Barracuda "Rally" wheelcovers show up on eBay occasionally. They were available in 13" and 14". The 14" covers really need the 5 1/2" wide wheels and long chrome 7/16" lug nuts to look and fit right.
