I just had the head redone because the valve seats had gone bad.(original engine never converted for unleaded fuel). The Machine shop said the HEAD looked Great. They decked it and cleaned it. Now I have it all back together. I also switched from the single barrel to the double Carter bbd and the intake/exhaust manifolds as well. It has a new Carburetor, distributor, wires, starter, coil, plugs, oil....etc. Everything has been double checked- checked the points gap, correctly wired from distributor.I am getting spark. Fuel is going to the carb. Charged the battery. - It doesn't seem like it is turning over hard enough. It sometimes seems like it wants to start but nothing. No popping or anything. I cant seem to figure it out. |

I was told to re-torque the head after 200 miles, is this correct? any other Break-In procedures? |

Steel head gasket? Probably don't have one of those. The Victor and the Permatorque Blue you don't need to redo.Run for 500 miles reset the valves, change the oil. I usually run a new engine for 20 minutes for cam break in and change the oil and filter. It catches crap from machine work. |

it's probably not turning over hard enough because everything is not working hard due to replacement parts (IE, everything works fine but not enough juice.) That or you had to charge the battery and it's not cranking out the amps it needs. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Get it tested at a local auto store and if needed they can give it a deep cycle charge within a few hours. Such recharge can work better than home battery chargers and will save you the energy This is a good place to start and won't cost you more than already spent. |
