this will be a daily driver /6 for max mileage. I want to have the quench for max efficiency. thank you for your time. bobc@inebraska.com

Sorry to say that getting quench in a 225 SL6 is hard to do.
The basic problem is that the 225 has so much negative deck (-.140) and has an open combustion chamber. A custom made piston will be needed along with "fussy" combustion chamber machining work to do this.

When I rebuilt my "Screamin' Six" Slant Six engine, I had the deck cut 0.060" below blueprint specs, to 10.62", and put in Sterling 244NP pistons which have a 1.74" compression height. I was still 0.105" below the deck.

You could do it, but you'd probably need custom pistons with huge valve reliefs, or maybe the 198 rod / 2.2 piston thing could help.

This makes post #10 for me. I got my "Super Six" rating! :D

2.2 turbo pistons on 198 rods gave me a deck height of -.028". :shock:

The flats in the 68 & newer combustion chamber head are another .200 up from zero deck. Needless to say that it takes some big "bumps and dips" to get up that far into the chamber to quanch and still keep the compression ratio in the 9 to 1 zone.

Has anyone had a slant 6 head flame spray welded to increase the quench area? I understand that has been done succesfully on other cast iron heads.

Good idea, Rich. They used to furnace weld the Chevy Vega heads to convert from open to closed chamber. I searched the web for an article on this with no success.

The 198 rod 2.2 Piston combo looks like the best way to go.
