Post subject: | Dying on corners |
Well I have a new problem with the Dart. Now it likes to die when accelerating around corners. If I coast around without hitting the gas and then just ease into acceleration once I'm straight, I'm okay (stumbles a bit but then comes back up). What gets me is that when I'm stopped, prepared to turn a corner and I gas it, it just goes completely dead. No sputtering or choking, just OFF. That led me to think it might be an ignition problem, but it doesn't have a problem when I accelerate straight form a stop. No amount of tuning the carb has helped me at all. Anyone have any suggestions on something to look at or try? |

It could be a low float setting in the fuel bowl. Also a weak vacuum signel or blown economizer valve. (power valve) A blown vacuum advance pod can also cause a "get back into the throttle" stumble. DD |

What's an economizer valve? I'm still admittedly a bit dumb with carbs. Also a weak vacuum signel or blown economizer valve. (power valve) A blown vacuum advance pod can also cause a "get back into the throttle" stumble. DD The vacuum pod I can pick up at the local parts store it appears. Can I just pop it right in, or does it have to be adjusted in any way? |

My first guess would also be low float level. But my friend, Brian, once told me he had a dying coil give him similar symptoms. |

Holley got 'cute' with the 1 bbl 1920's and called the power enrichment valve the "economizer valve", this is the plunger / diaphram under the 3 screw lid just to the inside of the float bowl . This valve adds fuel enrichment when the vacuum drops. (throttle opens) DD |

If it were the coil, wouldn't it also crap out when accelerating on a straightaway? I wouldn't be surprised if the coil IS going bad, but given the symptoms, I would think there'd be other problems as well if it were ignition related...

I know it sounds weird. Brian is pretty sharp, and if it came from just about anybody but Brian, I'd be questioning it, too! ![]() |

Well I'll be tearing into it on Sunday, so cross yer fingers that I can fix it...

I had the same condition and it did turn out to be low float-which carb are you using? |

I've got a newly rebuilt Holley 1920 sitting on the work bench in my garage now. Haven't been able to put it in yet because of a couple rusted and siezed screws, so I've got some Kroil soaking into the rust. Soon as I can break 'em loose it'll be going on.
