Time has come to detail the little stuff on the 67 Dart. Black background of “GTâ€￾ emblems and grill are stone chipped and weathered. Both grill and emblems had been touched up at some time in the past with a non UV resistant paint. I haven’t been able to determine if the black factory background paint was flat, satin, or semi-gloss.

I took a look at one fender emblem pictured in Year One’s catalog, and was not able to ascertain its sheen. Anyone have knowledge of correct black paint sheen to use?

The 67 Dart front sheet metal I got for my brother's 74 Duster project came from a 67 Dart GT. Looking at the emblem, I suspect the black background paint was gloss.

Looking at the 1968 exterior color finishes on THIS page, it seems that,in 1968 at least, all the exterior black finishes used by Dodge were some level of gloss. The paint in the 67 emblems on my brother's car seems to match the grille trim paint, but all exterior black colors used on the 1968 model are straight black with the 9000 paint code, with no difference for finish. I think you would be safe going with straight gloss black.

Incidentally, that color black was used at least up through the 90s era Jeeps. I had to paint a fender and door for my old 84 Chrysler Fifth Ave and it was also the 9000 black paint code, which the paint store matched to a late 90s Jeep color.

Reed, my blacked out areas exhibit the same road rash. I suspect someone followed a sand truck a little too closely for a few winters.

Windshield has had the same sand blasting as well.

I'd use some black model paint (testors) with model paint brushes........

I don't know about sand trucks. That just looks like 40+ years of daily driver status to me. Sun, tiny rocks, twigs, birds, etc...

From what I remember they're gloss black.

I refurbished a few for a friend. I used testors enamel as suggested. I filled a syringe with paint and filled in the colored areas. After a couple days cure time, I built up the colored areas the same way with clear fishing rod building epoxy. They turned out similar to the new style plastic coated emblems. They'll never chip! And if the color gets dull, just buff it out.
