Is there a good guide somewhere to doing this? I've never rebuilt a carb before and I wanna get it right the first time.

save all your old gaskets & compare them to the ones in the kit. this practice has save my tail so I do it on all rebuilds. check your settings (float level etc) BEFORE you strip the carb(trust me on this) then check these against the specs on the sheet. after you pull the carb & parts out of the soup & rinsed them(hot water or solvent)shoot a can of starting fluid into all passages as the soup doesn't always get into some small passages(where it's needed the most)

When I rebuilt my Holley 1920 with a kit from NAPA, the kit included a decent enough set of directions. If your kit doesn't have any, the best set of directions you can get for working on old Mopars is the Factory Service Manual from Year One.

only other things i can think of is take extra special care not to lose any parts and if you have access to compressed air to use it to blast out any gunk that may be lurking in the passages of the main body. also be sure to check for any play in the throttle shaft AFTER you clean it. it's amazing how much play appears after you clean all the varnish out.

on the main body you'll notice some aluminum plugs here and there. remove them before you clean the body to prevent any bits of crap from hiding in there (if the carb is really clean you can probably skip this step.) one of these plugs covers the accellerator pump jet and may be the only way to get that pesky check ball out by removing the jet ant cleaning behind the ball. a bent paperclip will help in persuading the ball out, too.
