Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem with my 62 valiant. The high beams light up but the lows do not. I had an episode a while back where I stepped on the floor switch for high beams and all the headlights went out. Hit the switch again and the lows came back on. Not sure if that means anything, it's the only weird occurrence with the lights I can think of.

I read the entire electrical forum and didn't find anyone with the same problem. Any advice?

Thanks,

John D

Replace old dimmer switch with a new one.

Yup, your problem is likely in the kickswitch on the floor. It is easy to replace. You may want to think about beefing up your headlamp circuit for better reliability and nighttime seeing. Read about it here and here.

I've had both low beams burn out at once. Don't overlook the easy and obvious!

Thank you for the replies guys.

The switch was cheap so I grabbed one. Didn't fix it. All four come on in high beam setting, none on in low beam. I tried some other lights from one of my parts cars and also no go.

I'm looking at the wires as best I can now. Any other ideas/tips?

Thanks again!

John D

You've got a wiring problem, then, between the kickswitch and the headlamps. Trace the wiring and find the open connection.

G'day John,

mate.....I'm 99% sure the switch is your problem. Happened a few times on my car over the years. Make sure the wires connecting to it are all good and she's screwed in properly. This exact thing is a very common issue. I know i replaced mine once and it still didn't work. Then i discovered there was a problem with the plastic plug that housed the wires where it plugged into the switch.

After reading this thread I tried the headlights on my Dart again (they had quit working awhile back and I simply didn't take the time to diagnose the problem). What do you know!? High beams work, low beams don't.

Thanks guys! :D
