The big lug 7 1/4 has the same backing plate bolt pattern as the 8 3/4 so there may be a way to use the more common rear DB 8 3/4 kits, on one of the later 7 1/4s.
Personally... a 7 1/4 is not a good place to invest a lot of money, time & effort... it's too easy to blow one up, even after doing everything "right".

They were known for busting spider gears. How much power you planning on putting in front if it?? Stick or auto?? If under 300 hp you shouldn't have much of a problem. Long as no cowboyin' goes on.. I agree with Doc that the large bolt 10x2 1/2 drum one should use all the disc parts from a 8 3/4 kit.

How can you get 300 HP from a slant six that's streetable?

I think Sandy's response was good. Get a rear out of an Explorer. You'll never break it, and you the disc brake setup is all on and ready to go.

Forced induction can be anything from a turbo scavenged from the junkyard (least expensive, but fair amount of customizing needed) to a full on supercharger and manifold, ala Pentastar Parts in Australia. (Most expensive). Look for the "Hurricane" manifold with the blower mounting.

You could also use Nitrous to raise HP. Cheaper and easier to begin with, but there's always the refills to keep up with.

You can blow up a 7 1/4 with a stock slant....we all have.

My Explorer 8.8 weighs 20 lbs more than the 7.25 it replaced. Available with Trac Loc and gears from 3.00 to 4.11.
