Ok, I have a 65 Barracuda with a 225 slant 6.
Do you guys (or gals) think that putting A/C on my car would put too much strain on my engine?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

As long as your cooling system is able to handle the extra heat/stress,you are fine. Geo metros came with a/c and they only make like 15 hp with 3cyls  No worries at all.

It can be done, and you are in a location with lots of local expertise on the subject (go see the people at Arizona Mobile Air, for one of many examples) but you have a poorly-insulated, poorly-sealed car with giant glass area -- a very effective solar oven. It has a minimally adequate cooling system which will be quite inadequate once the enormous thermal load of A/C is thrown onto it. If you are expecting to just hang A/C in the car and drive off in cool comfort, you will be disappointed. Whatever A/C system you choose will be all but useless unless you do the whole job, which calls for insulating the car thoroughly. That means you'll be adding something like LizardSkin to the interior of the sheetmetal (especially the roof, but also the doors and floor) and tinting the windows effectively. Otherwise you are asking a small A/C system to cool a solar oven, and it just plain won't happen.

You will also need to upgrade your radiator and radiator fan substantially.

Go for it! But don't forget that you will very likely need to increase the cooling capacity of your vehicle in some way. You might get away with a fan with more blades, or adding a radiator shroud, or you may have to go with a better radiator.

I see that their comprssor bracket, states comprssor and alternator bracket. Cam you take a picture of the bracket and post it?
I have a bracket made, that solves clearance problems on "A" bodies. Most other brackets I have seen require relocating other components. I would lke to see thiers

The Vintage Air unit in my '64 convertible will freeze you out in 100F temps. In normal driving, the slant handles the job very well.

I used a stock slant compressor bracket from a '79 Aspen with a York compressor. I made two simple "C" shaped adapter brackets so I could use the Sanden.

I will take photos tomorrow.

I was not looking forward to no A/C in Phoenix.

Do you want a photo of the components? The engine is still out of the car.

I would like to see pics of the components, and also as mounted on the engine.

Here is the bracket for my AC. It places the AC above the alternator.
You replace the alternator belt with a longer one that goes around both.

I will. I still need to rebuild my front end and paint the car before I put the motor in. This is the only slant six specific photo.
