Car Model: '64 Valiant Convertible
In the month of November 1968 are beginning to see the first preproduction units of the new Dodge line and in December of that year presented to the press at Hotel President. The chassis of these models was derived from Valiant previous years, namely that in the United States called frame A (A Body). This resulted in a number of mechanical components of the new Dodge, were interchangeable with Valiant line. Chances are that the chassis of the Dodge line, resulted from the U.S. Dodge Dart. In fact the Valiant Valiants III and IV, were called Dodge Dart in the United States. In principle, the front suspension was maintained with two longitudinal torsion bars and the rear with the classic spring. Among the new model were the lights "rectangular", a novelty in the Argentine market, and curved windows. Apparently, the four models are offered with the same colors: Dark Grey Metallic, Silver Metallic, Red means, Dark Red, Medium Blue, Dark Blue, Medium green, Dark Green, Silver, Bronze, Copper, Yellow, Black and White. Although it is likely that the economic line some of the colors were optional. The measures made it a little larger than the Valiant IV. The line began with the Dodge Valiant, the most economical, which came to replace the Valiant IV Standard.
For this model, the brakes were still drum on all four wheels. The engine was the one used in the Valiant IV Standard: 6 cylinder in-line 225ci. This engine, its low level of compression, was suitable for use with regular gasoline.

Displacement:
3687cm3 (225ci)
Diameter:
86.6mm
Career:
104.77mm
Compression:
7.3:1
Power:
137HP (SAE) at 4000rpm
Torque:
28.45kgm (SAE) at 2400rpm
Carburetor:
Holley 7001 RX
The gas tank of 68 liters remained, the clutch also was the same as it has been used since the Valiant II, a dry single plate of 234.9mm (9.25 "), like the box 3 changes (driving lever ) A-745/1 but now also timed with the first:

1:
3.02:1
2:
1.76:1
3:
1:1
MA:
3.95:1
Differential:
3.07:1
This Dodge Valiant, the engine (except the carburetor) was the same as Valiant II, 1963. Even the transmission system was the same. The factory covers that were brought 6.4x13, the peso was declared in 1325kg and the maximum speed at 160km / h. The line also included the Dodge Polara, Dodge and Dodge Coronado GT. The differences between the Dodge Valiant and Dodge Polara and Dodge Coronado, was primarily of equipment and finishing details. The latter two were similar to the Dodge Valiant but the most powerful engine of the Valiant IV built in 1968 (with the exception of the carburetor) was called "Slant RG Power 225".

Displacement:
3687cm3 (225ci)
Diameter:
86.6mm
Career:
104.77mm

8:1
Power:
145HP (SAE) at 4000rpm
Torque:
29.7kgm (SAE) at 2400rpm
Carburetor:
Holley 7001 RX

Even the gearbox, differential and clutch were the same for all three models. The Dodge Polara and Dodge Coronado had covered rims 5x14 and 7.35x14, which trails front and rear grew 5 mm and the height increased by 50mm.

Length:
5010mm
Width:
1860mm
Height:
1410mm
Front gauge:
1415mm
Rear gauge:
1465mm
Wheelbase:
2810mm
Clear the floor:
205mm
The weight of two was declared in 1350kg. The Dodge Coronado following the tradition begun with the Valiant IV Coronado, was the luxury version of the Dodge Polara differed with the vinyl roof (which unlike the Valiant III and IV Coronado was complete), servo-brakes and discs the front as standard equipment instead of optional (277.6mm discs and bells out of the back of 254mm). The upholstery also were different and more luxurious upholstery throughout the interior. The line was completed with the sports version which was the Dodge GT (Gran Turismo). It was basically like the rest of the range, but with the Valiant IV GT engine called "Power A-119 Slant."

Displacement:
3687cm3 (225ci)
Diameter:
86.6mm
Career:
104.77mm
Compression:
8.4:1
Power:
155hp (SAE) at 4500rpm
Torque:
30.4kgm (SAE) at 2400rpm
Carburetor:
Carter BBD 4300S
This model came with the scheme of Coronado Dodge brakes (front disc and rear drums) and the fourth box on the floor imported A-833 called "Barracuda" with four synchronized changes.

1:
2.66:1
2:
1.91:1
3:
1.39:1
4:
1:1
MA:
2.58:1
Differential:
3.31:1
This model came with wheels 5.5x14 and 70x14 covered tubeless. Had a declared weight of 1400kg maximum 170km/hy came equipped with bucket seats and tachometer. In July 1969 the magazine makes the Corsa road test and these are the values of performance they get:

Maximum Speed 4:
168.15km / h
0-100km / h:
11s
0-140km / h:
22.5s
500m:
20.4s
Consumption values at constant velocity obtained were:

60 km / h:
11.8km / l
236km/20l
8.47l/100km
80 km / h:
11km / l
220km/20l
9.09l/100km
100km / h:
8.5km / l
170km/20l
11.76l/100km
120km / h:
7.6km / l
152km/20l
13.16l/100km
to 140km / h:
6km / l
120km/20l
16.67l/100km

Just a year later, in December 1969, is presented in San Just plant the Dodge (plain), which is the same Dodge Valiant and like the Dodge Polara becomes the brake servo assisted as standard . The gearboxes for the whole line, are replaced by the model A-230/3 with 3 changes synchronized and, apparently, the same relationships. Also begins with the manufacture of automatic gearboxes Torqueflite A-904, so that this year appear as an optional for Dodge Coronado.

The Dodge Coronado Automatic comes in February 1970 at the Golf Club of Palermo. The Dodge Coronado Automatic was new to the Argentine market as it was the first self-produced series to bring an automatic gearbox.

1:
2.83:1
2:
1.56:1
3:
1:1
MA:
2.66:1
Differential:
3.07:1
In the journals of the day announcing the engine power and the spread of this model like the GT with 155hp Dodge and 3.31:1 ratio. This figure sounds unlikely according to the values obtained in the test. Preproduction perhaps some units have been assembled in this way. In March 1970, the magazine makes it a Corsa road test the Dodge Coronado Automatic, these performance values are obtained:

Maximum speed 3:
157.9km / h
0-100km / h:
16.3s
0-140km / h:
37.8s
The consumer got into town was 5.8km / l, or 116km/20l or 17.24l/100km. Values were consumption at constant speed:

60 km / h:
9.2km / l
184km/20l
10.87l/100km
80 km / h:
8km / l
160km/20l
12.5l/100km
100km / h:
6.8km / l
136km/20l
14.7l/100km
120km / h:
6.2km / l
124km/20l
16.13l/100km
to 140km / h:
4.6km / l
92km/20l
21.74l/100km
Also from that year, the Dodge Polara could be ordered with the fourth box on the floor A-230/4.

1:
3.09:1
2:
2.10:1
3:
1.45:1
4:
1:1
MA:
2.67:1
Differential:
3.07:1
The following year, during 1971, it stops producing the Dodge as a model base and begins with the production of the Dodge Taxi, which was a Dodge, but with Perkins 4-203 Diesel engine. Apparently, this model does not have a continuity of production and I have more accurate data about how long followed in the assembly line. It also fails to produce the Dodge GT, as the models go into production coupe.

In April 1972, the large line of Dodge received a facelift, changing the front, the brake lights, dash and upholstery. The dashboard instruments were replaced by a more modern design appeared more colors for the upholstery. Along with this restyling, the automatic transmission becomes standard on the Dodge Coronado and an optional manual gearbox. In a pamphlet was published that the trail ahead was 1.430m instead of 1.410m of the first models, probably by changing the road.

In November 1976 presented the Dodge Polara Diesel engine with the same Dodge Taxi, the Perkins 4-203. These were the motor data:

Displacement:
3300cm3
Compression:
17.4:1
Power:
71HP (SAE) at 3000rpm
Torque:
22kgm (SAE) at 1350rpm
This model brought as standard equipment box 4 changes to the floor of the Dodge Polara RT. The electrical system was 6 volt batteries and carrying two instead of one.

The Dodge Polara and Dodge Coronado until 1979 continued to make always the same chassis without major mechanical innovations until they stopped making the closure of Chrysler in Argentina.

Google Translate to the rescue (:-D

Yes. The 2bbl slant-6 was released in markets around the world outside the US/Canada (Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Spain and from there to the rest of Europe in very small numbers, possibly Brazil, possibly Mexico, possibly Israel) in 1967.

Hey Dan,

would an Israeli version been right or left hand drive? Also, what would the body style have been for a Valiant or Dart... American? Australian? So. African?

Just wondering...

The Coronados are kinda cool. If you do a search on youtube, you eventually get to the spanish stuff. The most interesting is the orange one with 3 foot high "tunnel ram" running 2 1v carbs with fender well headers.
