Can the 2378 model carter be used for a super six setup? I have a 2 bbl intake to use, but still only have the old narrow a body , 1 bbl linkage. Thanks to all. |

Where are you finding the "2378" number? What's the carb from, do you know? Where did you find it? If you don't wish to convert to a cable-type throttle control (different accelerator pedal and all brackets/hardware, cable, different kickdown linkage) you may want to look at doing a See the parallel 2bbl setup. Photo documentation of a very well done such conversion is here. |

It is for sale on CL, and all it says is that it was on a 1975 318. Does that help exclude anything? And thanks for those linkage ideas. |

I've never heard of that number but you wont be able to hook up your choke thermostat on a 318 carb. Post the link to the craigslist ad so we can see the carb. |

He might be able to. Check out this link, which shows how to modify the choke linkage.

"2378" isn't a valid carb number for a '75 318. Probably the seller saw that number somewhere on one of the castings, but that's not the carb number. Looks like this is the ad you're looking at. Not enough info. Does "new" really mean new, or does it mean "remanufactured"? |

Dan is correct. Three tin top 318 carbs I checked have that cast number on the middle part of the carb. |

For $25 I would go pick it up before someone else and deal with it later. You will also be able to look up more info if you have it in your hand. |

"Pig in a poke" is an interesting old Southern American expression based around an old Southern American word ("poke") that means grocery sack. The expression means you don't know what you're going to get, but it stands a pretty good chance of being an unpleasant surprise. Me, I would not spend a quarter of a hundred dollars on a carburetor that is not at all described, not pictured, and is probably "remanufactured" rather than new. Not without more info before spending. |

I do agree, the only thing I could add to my previous statement is, upon purchasing, you could examine it, maybe have some reference numbers with you that correspond with the carb it is suppose to be. But realistically I would follow your advice, or at least give it to others ( do as I say not as I do). But for me I have made a habit of purchasing things such as this, this how I have come to own a vehicle with a slant 6 and I am very Happy with that purchase. Before I thought it was the amc straight 6 just with a different name and bought it for that reason. It was a pleasant surprise. |

That is a great link Fab64. That's the posting, Dan. Hmmm.....2 I bbls in the hand may beat one 2 bbl in the bush, and Irvine is pretty well in the bushes. Add $20 for gas to get there and back. Really, with a 2.76 rear end, 2-inch dual exh and ported head, late model stock cam, 14 inch rims, would improved economy or power of a 2 bbl even be manifested? I would think on the hwy, yes. |
