Okay guys, pardon my ignorance, as I've never worked on/with a manual trans car, only driven them. ![]() Right now I'm collecting parts to convert my Swinger from auto to 4-speed. When/if I ever get it converted, my plan is to (one day) buy the new Passon 5-spd, which should swap directly with the A-833. Okay, the new 5-spd is an 18 spline trans. Slants seem to use the 23 spline trans. My question is this: will I be able to accommodate an 18 spline transmission with available slant six parts? Is this just a clutch issue? |

You will need a custom clutch disc. Spec Clutch can make you one. |

Cool, thanks. So, without contacting them to quote something I won't need for several years, what do you guys think we're talking, here -- an extra $100? $300? over the price of a standard clutch? I just want to make sure it's a financially viable option before I proceed... |

The clutch disc is likely close to the $100. As they say if you have to ask (about the cost of the clutch) you can't afford it (the Passon 5-speed). When Spec made me a clutch to mate a Toyota R154 to an LA engine the custom clutch spline cost me nothing extra. |

Sorry, I meant the extra cost for the custom spline above and beyond the price of the clutch itself. From your comments, I'm guessing that will be negligible. All I needed to know! Thanks, Mr. Skinner! |

If you plan on the 5 speed in the future and will be putting it behind a slant,Passion should be able to outfit his with a 23 spline. Just ask. |

Ryan and I spoke to Jamie at Carlisle and brought up this very issue. He said he could get a clutch disc made up to work if we needed one. He diidn't act like it was any big deal. Didn't ask price. Sorry. Rick |

I talked to Jamie @ carlisle 2011 About the possibility of making the A-855 5 speed with the 1x23 input shaft - And he said that they were not too instestered in doing this.. Instead he suggested that I get a 10" clutch with the Hemi sized (1 3/16" X 18 ) input Splines on the center of the clutch.. I asked him to possibly think about tooling up to make the A-855 with the 1x23 Input shaft as well.. I think the more slant people that bug him abou this the better.. Romeo maybe you have some clout here?? javascript:emoticon(':D') Greg |

As long as we can get a 10" clutch in a 18 spline ( even if it has to be custom made), you will probably never see a 23 spline 5 speed. I think we would have a much better chance of having him source the clutch disc we need to make it work. The more people that ask ....etc Rick |

I went through the spline thing long ago with my RAP 5 speed. 9.25 Dodge 23 spline clutch is almost the same as Ford 23 spline.......almost You can get any spline in any disc for a pretty reasonable price I think I paid $130 foir my McLeod 9.25 ceramic disc with Ford spline. |

I used to see him several times a year and we did many project cars together(before he became famous). But if you guys are serious and may be do a group buy I will see if I got any clout left.... Right now I know he is consumed with getting his tranny to market. |

Romeo, feel free to ask him, but I don't see much more than a handful of Slant 6 people doing a swap like this for what it costs. 99% of us are tightwads. You might be able to get a group buy, but the problem is that they don't need it yet because the tranny is not out yet. As soon as it comes out, then all the Slant 6 folks that want one will be running around looking to have them made. If Jamie can get them made and have a part # ready to go when the transmission comes out that would be a big plus. I also think the disc should be of the dual friction type so it holds up well on dragstrip. Thanks, Rick |
