Post subject: | Working on my 65 Valiant, could use some thoughts |
I have a 65 valiant 225 with a holley 1920 project i've been working with. Somebody before me installed an electronic ignition. Last fall i bought the car after it sat for about 4 years. It runs (kinda) but had to be towed to my place. Since then i've done some work to get the Val back on the road. Now i'm having trouble deciding what my next step should be. Heres what I can remember doing so far: New plugs, cap, rotor Valves adjusted New timing chain Dropped and cleaned the gas tank New Holley 1920 Comp test was alright All of these things seemed to help. The engine still runs badly though. Cold starts are good. Then i hop out and start fiddling with the timing and the carb. Once it starts warming up the engine starts to smoke. (White smoke i think, my eyes aren't the sharpest with color though). After it gets all warmed up, the engine starts to have a harder and harder time idling till it dies. Then it's tough to get started again and doesn't wanna run. Does that mysteries paragraph indicate anything to anybody? To my untrained eyes, those seem to be my major indicators. Also, the timing marks on the engine are in different places on my 65 and 67 Valiants. Is that normal or suspicious? Thanks |
