Installing a A833OD in my D100 /6 3spd(on column) and was wondering if anybody has tried using the column shifter for a 4 speed. I was thinking of adding an additional lever in the floor or some type of electric solinoid for reverse. Not really wanting to install a floor shifter if I don't have to. |

I never found "3 on the tree" to be a particularly great setup... I can't imagine the mess that happens with "4 on the tree"! - Mac |

Mercedes did this. It's alright if you want to drive like a 90 year old German pensioner. ![]() |

The old two cycle Saabs had four on the tree, plus freewheeling capability at the flip of a lever under the dash for better fuel economy. They were hideous sounding; a cross between a Lawn Boy Mower, and a cake mixer. Puttering & sputtering freewheeling downhill, and buzzing up grade spewing a trail of blue smoke. |

I had 4sp O/D in my A-108 ,I mounted a Toyota transfer case shifter on the floor for reverse.Everything worked great. The best part was that you could engage reverse and 3rd gear at the same time, giving you the best park brake ever. lol |

My DKW also had Freewheeling(no flip of the switch), as the momentum of the vehicle exceeded the engine speed, the transmission would dis-engage.It worked very well! I built a custom expansion chamber for the car and it did smoke alittle, but it also got 50+mpg! (you had to factor in 2-stroke mix with the price of gas ![]() |
