Post subject:  Glide or 904 in my Valiant

Weighing my options before spending some dough. The torque of this turbo motor should make a glide work, correct? Or should I just go with a 904? Is there anyone that makes a glide adapter to fit a Slant? Looks like I'm going with a brake in either one. Later

Mark Goodman had adapters for the GM to Slant swap. Don't know if he still makes them or not. He goes by 'Team Green' on here. :D

Personally, I'd rather pound nails through my private parts than ever put a Powerglide in my Mopar, but that's just me.

If Mark Goodman Cant help you out with a Glide - / 6 Adapter I am pretty sure Wilcap In Can Make you an adapter.

Just google wilcap -and call them to get the quickest response.

I Bet the torque you are making would justify a ' Glide.

Are they lighter in terms of rotating Mass than a 904?

Just curious as I dont mess with GM stuff.

I thought you liked the 727? 8)

If the budget were there for a rollerized A904 that's what I'd do. The 'glide is going to make it lazy off the line. If you try to fix that with the torque converter it's going to slip on the top end. I would only run a glide in something super light with more torque than you can hook up. A full bodied A-body is not such a beast.

You might need to install a lower first gear in the glide or put a lower rear gear to compensate for only having 2 gears.

Yes Josh...I'm changing my ways. The pump went south on it so time to change. I'm also trying to chase a certain ET and the 727 is in the way. I hope to get about 150lbs out of the car but it may not be enough to take the gamble with a Glide.

A Glide is a gamble. They work for some, not so much for others. Converter choice is super critical with a Glide because it gets worked a lot harder on the launch.

With a 904 you can put a longer gear in the rear and still launch harder than a Glide.

Contrary to the popular belief, Glides break too.

Dale Rose has a 904 in his race car and has went 10.01 several times with it but I doint know the weight of your car. I do know Dales weight. I do know he has raced that same transmission for several years and had no problems with it. Me Norm Foster and Dale have our transmission built by the same person. Im not as fast as you I have run my trans for 10 years. No problems with the trans but I did tear a flexplate into about 6 years ago but solved that problem. Thanks Ron Parker :D

I also vote for 904. Can't imagine the glide will pick you up much if any and might worse. Certainly a huge amt harder to put in.

With 150 lbs out and a 904 vs. 727, seems like you should be almost in the 9s??

Cheers, Lou

a rollerized A904
I don't know the term. What does it mean?

Rollerized means roller bearings in place of the thrust washers to cut parasitic drag. Roller bearings have also been used on the output shaft, but I do believe that requires a hardened yoke.

What you are seeing is weight transfer. Who built the trans has nothing to do with it. :?

It looks like a 904 is the plan. Thanks for all the input...hope to be racing later this year. Later
