Dan sent me an article that showed how to convert a 1bbl, to a 2bbl, manifold. I like it in the orientation & appears it would allow me to use stock throttle/kickdown setup. I don't know how it flows compared to a regular super six. A friend of mine has (well, now I have it) a very nice 2bbl off of a 1966 273 & I think I'm just going to go ahead & put the 2bbl on, for now. It looks pretty much like the 318 2bbl but no holes in the blades & amazingly, a tight throttle shaft.

So which manifold works better, performance/economy/mixture wise or is there enough difference to matter? Thank you!

Flow's about the same whether carb is rotated 90° this way or 90° that way. Mixture distribution is potentially more even with the parallel design, but is adequately even with the factory perpendicular design. '66 273 carb should work fine!

So, six (Ironic, huh?) of one, half-dozen of the other, huh? Well, since I already have the super manifold, I'll just go with that & fab some linkage. Thank you!

Shirley. Depending on which carburetor you've got, you may need to file down/saw off some extra metal from the intake manifold to clear the throttle lever. The Stromberg WW3 throttle lever sometimes hits an unnecessary corner of the intake manifold casting; the BBD doesn't. Other than that (and some choke headaches with the WW3) either carb should work well for you in good condition.

I changed me 1bbl to a 2bbl, have the two barrels running parallel to the engine (If that makes sense). Haven't noticed any issues, plugs are the same colors. Can't hear anything funny. Did have to shave a little off the linkage to make it clear the manifold as said above. Goodluck!

Most adapters that mount a larger carb on a smaller manifold are not worth buying. The manifold is the "choke" point.

i have a 1975 dart . it has the stock intake and exhaust man's with 1 bbl carb.
my question i guess is , what is the difference between the intake manifolds on 1bbl and super six 2 bbl other than the top opening where the carb mounts to. ?

thanks

I didn't use an adapter plate I just used a 2bbl plate, Cut a 2bbl hole into the manifold, ground it all flat, drilled holes, tapped them and used some studs I also used a heat resistant epoxy to seal the gap (which was minimal in size) something that wouldn't have issues with petrol.

The only difference between a 1bbl and 2bbl apart from the top opening and/or orientation of the carb as far as I am aware is nothing. It will bolt up to the head exactly the same. Some manifolds are longer (runner length is comparable with better fuel distribution) than others, most of the time the original throttle and kickdown linkage won't translate over.

Thanks.

cool, thanks for the input. i am going to try the 1bbl to 2bbl adaptor on my stock slant 6 225 intake manifold. i have a 2bbl carter bbd (280 cfm) carb and clifford headers with dual exhaust with cherry-bomb glass-packs. im just not sure what cam to use on this otherwise stock motor. i will mostly be driving this car on weekends to meets which are sometime 200 highway miles away.
any advise on this would be great, especially cam choice.

Try some square wheels while you are at it -- they are both equally bad ideas.

If you need one of these cheap, die-cast 1 to 2 carb adapters, drop me a PM and I will sell you one... out of the bucket-full I have, from taking them off cars, to "set things right" again.

Yes, it is.

It is getting that way, but it really isn't too difficult to modify a one barrel intake to accept a two barrel carb. There have been numerous discussions about modifying the one barrel carburetor intake. Use the search feature on this site.
