Post subject:  Replacing windshield in 67 dart, *update*need a couple clips

Searched old posts and private messages but am coming up short. I have the right windshield to go in, but I remember something about the 67 gasket etc being one year only, hard to find, and inferior to the 68 up. Basically I need a shopping/conversion list. I remember something about a locking strip for the trim or something? If I am going to the 68 up seal, do i need to go to 68 up trim as well? any good vendors? thanks!

ok, found on FABO, looks like i would need to either weld  (and no welder) or drill and screw clips in like these http://tinyurl.com/893jgmt I am not 100% confident in my drilling and screwing and might see if a glass shop would do that and warranty it. last thing I need is to get the windshield out and mess up everything. Have a card somewhere from a guy locally that said he does old stuff as well, did a coworkers insurance job. Might see if I can dig that card out. So I need clips as linked to above, 68 up gasket, 68 up chrome?

Yes, gasket, chrome (stainless steel) trim & the clips are what is needed.
Screwing the clips in is not hard, once the glass is out. Getting them at the right height is the key to success.
If your glass is good, cut-up the old gasket to remove it from the vehicle.

its split in half vertically on the passenger side and right in the middle its spider webbing down and out from the top. pretty bad.
also wondering if this would be a good time to replace the dashpad while the glass is out? does that make it easier or no?

Sounds like you "kill" the cracked glass and save the gasket on that one.

As for dashpad replacement, it's a lot easer with the windshield out but a little "scary"...
Under the WS gasket are the bolts that hold the entire dash support sheetmetal assembly to the firewall.
Remove those bolts and swing the assembly down and you get direct access to the nuts that hold the dashpad on...
No "feeling around" under the dash, with this approach.

Dadtruck came over and helped me get the old windshield out today, managed to do so without bending the chrome trim or ruining the gasket. However, I have noticed now that its out, the reason some of the trim was loose before, was that two of the screws that hold the clips are snapped off. I think some combo of easy outs and visegrips (and plenty of pb blaster) will make that not too bad to get out, but the clips are MIA. Anyone convert to 68 up style and have some spare clips and screws? need 2 of them, thanks! And thanks to Dadtruck for coming over and helping me figure everything out!

another update, my chrome trim looks more like this one, stainless, etc, found this listed on ebay as being pulled from a 73, does this mean mine has already been changed to the 68 style gasket? has no plastic chrome locking strip that i can see.

and i got the 69 up dashpad, it fits but the bottom studs on the ends didnt line up, so i cut them off, hopefully that will help someone down the road...

Yeah you already have the 68+ trim. You'd know it if you had the 67 because there would be a large channel running around the entire gasket.

Thanks for link, mine doesnt have that, crazy! I really had no idea it was the later style already, I got it about 10 years ago, it had been sitting for 8 years before that. Thanks for the info, at least the clips will be easier to find!
