Hey All,
Am having a vexing issue with Lorrie Van Haul's Start, Run, and Charge Circuitry.

Lorrie is a 1967 Dodge P200 Postal Van with a 127 HP, 225 Slant Six Engine, a Bendix Stromberg Model W Carburetor, A727 Automatic Transmission, and an 8.75" 3.91:1 Sure-Grip Differential. Here is a JPG of Lorrie:

Have entirely rewired Lorrie, but not the way she was wired from the factory.

Here is a GIF of her Start, Run, and Charge Circuitry.

Here is the problem, if indeed this IS a problem.

Lorrie is wired so that when the Start Switch, which is a two separate circuit military specification Switch, is activated.

Circuit 1 of this Switch has a 12 Volt Wire coming FROM a 32 Amp Fuse, and the electricity from Circuit 1 goes TO the Starter Solenoid.

Circuit 2 of this Switch has a 12 Volt Wire coming FROM a 32 Amp Fuse, and the electricity from Circuit 2 goes TO the "+" Terminal of the Ignition Coil.

While doing this wiring, the circuitry was checked with a Multi-Tester, and it was found that there is continuity between the "+" Terminal of the Ignition Coil and the Starter Solenoid.

Disconnected the Wire that goes TO the "+" Terminal of the Ignition Coil FROM the Start Switch, and disconnected the Wire that goes TO the "+" Terminal of the Ignition Coil FROM the Output of the Ballast Resistor, and there is STILL continuity between the Ignition Coil and the Starter Solenoid.

Am concerned about "back feed" from the Ignition Coil to the Starter Solenoid.

Would appreciate any and all comments on this situation.

JC

Hey All,
Here is a possible explanation of this issue:

If the Wiring is all hooked up, "ready to run" with the Engine off, the continuity may actually be occurring "through the ground"

The way to check and see would be to unhook the Wire to the "-" Terminal of the Ignition Coil, and re-check for continuity.

The circuit path would be: Meter probe -- "+" Terminal of Ignition Coil -- through Coil -- to ground through Points -- to the ground side of the Starter -- through the Solenoid windings -- and back to the Meter.

Am going to run the "Remove the Wire to the '-' Terminal of the Ignition Coil Test" tomorrow morning. If there is no continuity, am going to figure that Lorrie is good to go.

Will get her started and warmed up and then will adjust the NEW Stromberg Model W Carburetor since the longer Idle Speed Screw was acquired this morning.

Hope you all are well.

JC
