First off, I'm not a great mechanic so take that into account. I can't seem to pull my transmission filler tube off. It's a 904 in a 84 1/2 ton van. Yes I have the bolt out part way up the tube. It leaks pretty bad out the front of the trans so I bought a used one to replace it with. So I poured the the old fluid out and man was it dark, took the filter off and it looked as though it had some holes worn in the body under the filter? Anyway, any advice on pulling off that filler tube without breaking something? Thanks in advance. |

Once you have the bolt out the tube should just pull out, it's held in with a O-ring seal. Richard |

The one on the used tranny I bought comes out easy, the old one not so much and since the old one has the length for a van and the replacement one came out of a truck and doesn't I dont want to damage it. |

Just a thought, the V8 trans I had got had another bolt down by the lower end of the tube it goes into the case. Take a look to see if yours has the second bolt. Richard |

Hmmm, I didn't see one but I,m going to take a flashlight out and check it out. I did notice something that doesn't look good though, the two pans aren't the same. They both have 14 bolts but they are shaped a little different. |

No, I don't see another one. I was going to post pictures of the pans but not sure how. I click Img and it just reads Img in the posting area. Maybe I don't have picture privileges yet? |

Sounds like you might have a 727 and a 904. (Click on this) http://www.teufert.net/trans/trannyid.pdf Richard |

Crap, the trans in my van is a 904 and the one the junkyard sold me is a 727. The thing is that they advertised it as a 914 and the truck they pulled it out of was a half ton dodge same year as my van with a slant six. This doesn't make any sense to me. |

The 727 was used in trucks behind the slant 6. Richard |

You need store the photos somewhere, like photobucket. Just copy the links for photobucket provides and paste them into your images. The A727 has some value for truck guys. You should be able to turn it and get an appropriate A904. Just make sure it's of an appropriate year to match your engine. Not all parts interchange across the years. CJ |

Thanks for all the help Richard, so is the 727 incompatible for my van without modifications? I suppose I better do some measurements and some more research here. I think once I get that filler tube off I should try to figure out if my 914 is still in good enough shape to just stop the leak coming from the front and keep using it. I was planning on rebuilding it and keeping it and just using the junkyard one in the interim. I'm pretty sure I have a lot of miles left on the motor and it's definitely still going to be my daily driver for work. Thanks again. |

As you can see I'm making a mess with the leak. Drained the tranny and took off the pan. looks like I need to replace the seals but what else should I do to the front and is there a post on replacing the rear seal? ![]() |

Only suggestion would be to make your pictures smaller. Richard |
