So my gearbox is slipping 904tf from a down under (aussie) 67 vc valiant. Would something like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TORQUEFLITE- ... 27c58f0bcb Fix a problem of slipping out of gear, or not engaging into gear straight away. It's a very cheap alternative, it's not easy to come by these gearboxes where I am and a full rebuild was quoted to me at $1000 total from two local shops. Thanks for the help! |

Start with doing a full service on the unit, inspect the junk in the trans pan, once its off, for a better idea of the unit's condition. Often a clean filter, new fluid and increasing the main line fluid pressure will help the problems you discribe. If there is a lot of friction material or metal in the pan... it's time for a rebuild. One thing that isn't clear for that auction is the type of L/R band. The last A904 I pulled out of a jeep case had the V8 band, which will not work in the slant six case. Not a big deal, but you'd end up needing one more part. When you go after your filter, get a nice clean picture of the rear band and all that connects it to the servo. (Or perhaps an Australian transmission guru can verify which band is used.) CJ |
