Post subject:  fuel pressure regulator question
Just got my truck together tonight after several changes done in the past month one of them was a compleat fuel system change over, summit 22 gallon circle track fuel cell, Fram canister filter, Holly "blue" fuel pump and the regulator that comes with it. I also used that trick filter/pressure guage with the banjo style mount that Summit sells, I didn't mount the regulator on to the filter I thought that assembly would get too heavy so I mounted the regulator on the fire wall and ran AN6 hose to the final filter/ carb. Everything seemed fine so I took it to the gas station for a fill but just as I got back there was a horrible rattleing sound coming from the firewall like the the bearings went out on the heater moter finally by turning things off including the engine! I found that loud noise was coming from the fuel pressure regulator this can't be normal Any body got any Ideas? as this is my first experiance with electric fuel pumping. :o :? Bruce Johnson

Boy, don't get me started on electric fuel pumps, I've had nothing but problems with them. I've had at least 4 different brands, and I think they are way too noisy and tempermental.

87 Ram , The pressure was at 4.5 changed it to seven the rattleing is no more just a buzz like a moter think I'll rubbermount the regulator and that should take care of it can't hear the pump in the cab Its mounted at the rear of the bed in aluminum box with the primary filter I'll post pictures when I figure out how Bud I wouldn't mind you getting started just what problems might I look for. I went electric for possible NOS in the future. Any way , its done. thanks again, Bruce

Had the same experience on my 63 Valiant. I'm using dual carbs, Carter fuel pump, and manifold pressure referenced regulator. The fuel pump buzzed loudly for a day or two, and the regulator sounded like you described for a minute or two. I think it was just trapped air bubbles. Electric fuel pumps are allot better at pushing than pulling and need to be real close to the tank.

Thanks Dan,Moparfreind, no worrys now. As for the pump it's as close to the fuel cell as I could place it. I chose to get a circle track style cell cause I did'nt like the Idea of all that plumbing so close to the ground as the cell is mounted under a trap door under the the bed where the spare tire use to be. the battery is also in the rear. I mounted a fused relay in the battery box for the pump, every thing will stay clean and easy to inspect. I also got the safety switch that turns off the pump when the oil pressure drops below 12psi my msd ignitions small red wire is also connected to this switch so if my oil pump fails the moter shuts down. So far this works great ,I just have to crank the engine a 2or3 more seconds till the oil light gos out. Posting this just in case Anyone? else out there is building a sevendys Dodge truck with a slant. Bruce Johnson
