Car Model: 1965 Valiant 200 Convertible Super 6 with A/C
Hi all,

I'm looking for the factory torque spec for the front strut rod nut (The one in front that sits in front of the two thick concave washers and rubber bushing on the front of the K frame)

I asked this before, and recieved a response of 40 ft pounds which seems way to much as the bushing will be totally crushed.Perhaps the 40 ft pound spec was for the nut on the back of the strut rod in the lower control arm

If there's a step on the rod, 40lbs won't crush the bushing.

Service manual states 110 foot lbs for the rear strut nut and 40 foot lbs for the front strut nut. Make sure the car is on the ground when you tighten the front nut.

Thanks.
40 seems like way to much. I just replaced the bushings with the non rubber type(The energy suspension ones) and they seem like they are being crushed at 20-25 foot pounds

I believe some of the poly strut rod bushings are not the correct thickness for use in an a-body.

I know they have to be tight so 40 lbs makes sense.. The tighter the better on my car... I'd made some bushings out of rubber and only snugged them a little. Car was wondering in the lane, veering when hitting the brakes, and prematurely wearing the inside of the tires (letting it toe out some?). Tightened them to 40 lbs and everything was good after that.. Just my experience.... R
