How hard would it be to put a 198 crank in a 170 block? What machine work for the block/crank? Which rods? Pistons?

Doc did one THIS WAY. With boring, it came out to 210 CID. Sounds like a good approach. Not sure about the availability of Vega pistons these days, though.

You can use 2.2 pistons or the Wisecos instead of the Vega units.
Fact is, we put a turbo on that engine and doing that quickly broke the skirts off those cast Vega pistons. (darn Chebby's and their broken piston skirts   )

We replaced those pistons with some Buick V6 "slugs" with-out "slipper-skirts". The 210 is back together.... waiting for a car to go into.

Anyway... the front and rear crankshaft counter-weights tend to hit the bottoms of #1 & 6 pistons so some engine "mock-up" work, measuring, then crank machining & rebalancing is required with the low block 198 build-up.

Would I use the 170 rods or another rod with pistons that have a lower compression height?

Thanks

You have to use the 5.7" low deck rods. I have a 210 "Kit" I bought from Josh some time back.

I'm hoping to get something done with it next year.
