Post subject:  oil pressure sending unit question

the 83 D-150 has the typical 3 prong oil pressure sending unit,
one prong power in,
one prong signal out to the dash low oil pressure light,
one prong power to the choke heater..

I am planning to install a D-150 gauge cluster that has an analogue gauge. The sender for the analog unit is a bell shaped dome unit, with one wire hook up that connects to the dash gauge cluster.

for the applications with an analogue gauge, how did Chrysler power the choke heater? I am considering installing a tee at the oil pump fitting,,so I can have the three prong unit and the dome sender,,, is that what the factory did?

thanks
DT

Use combination sender, Chrysler part number 53030493 with pigtail/socket, Standard p/n S727. This sender will drive both a gauge and a light at the same time. Looking at the new sender with the socket locking tab hook at the top, the Left terminal is for the Light and the right terminal is for the gauge. You don't need to feed the choke heater modulator from the oil pressure sender; all it needs is a line-voltage feed whenever the ignition switch is in the "run" position. Power it with a relay, if you're smart, and trigger the relay off the upstream side of the ballast resistor.
