dan, will those part numbers work for a 70 valiant? i'm in the same predicament.

The fuel gauge on my 66 dart reads 3/4 full, when its full. Then it speeds down to the low fuel zone ( 1/3 tank ), and very gradually goes down from there throughout the week. I knew about the problem, but it was not on my high priority list. Now its just making me mad looking at it and wondering how much is in there. The previous owner said it was looked at by a mechanic, and was told it would take ten minutes to adjust. I looked in the service manual but didnt see anything on adjusting the gauge. Any help would be great! Thanks |

There is no "adjustment" to be made. Replace the fuel gauge sender. Chrysler P/N 4051 004, try www.chryslerpartsdirect.com . If it doesn't come with a new fuel strainer, use GM part number 5651 705. Gasket: Chrysler P/N 6031 475 Sender grounding clip: Chrysler P/N 2258 862 |

Don't overlook the possibility of a leaky float; I've had several corrode through and partially sink. |

Look at the whole set of symptoms, though. Partially-sunk float will prevent a "Full" reading, but will not cause the variance in gauge drop speed described by the OP. |

You're right Dan, unless there are 2 leaks - a very small one on the upper side and a larger one on the lower side; that's what my brass float did. |
