| Post subject: | Quick carb question - Holley 1920 3069 for 3054? |
After finding a nice hairline in my carb base, I'm in the market for a new one and have found a 1920 that either came off a 65 Dart or Valiant 170. The list on it is 3054 (from pictures it's hard to tell, but it's either a 4 or a 9 on the end). Will it swap out ok for my 1920 List 3069? The other number on it is 2468757. It's $80 and I'm willing to drive the hour to pick it up. Will it work? |

I just got pictures of the carb and the only differences seem to be in the choke linkage where I have a link and it seems to have a one piece metal tab that controls the dashpot, and the port where my PCV is hooked up is missing, but the port on the opposite side is open, whereas it's plugged on mine. |

From Holley Illustrated parts and specs book. 3054-1965 Dart and Valiant 170 engine 3059-1965 Dodge and plymouth 225 engine 3069-not listed. Under and left from fuel inlet, above casting number may be the venturi size 1-1/4 or 1-5/16. |

I'm not really sure what this tells me, but I do know that it's 3069 (4712 below it) and the venturi size is 1 5/16. I'm going to tell this guy today that I can't use it. Which I'm guessing is the case. |

Don't see why you couldn't, if it's in good shape, but that sounds like a big "if". |

What about the different position of the port? Is it the same port that goes to the pcv, just on the other side? It seems like everything should match up, it just has a different way of working, right? Considering that my cracked carb is killing me on turns, I'd be willing to take the gamble if I knew it'd at least fit. |

Oh, I also just got the walker rebuild kit for my cracked carb. Would that work on this other one, or did I just become a victim of bad timing? |

Same kit. You'll want a new float, too. |

Dan, you're officially my favorite person this whole month and possibly my car's favorite, period. I'm going to get it this weekend and I'll tell you how it goes! Or... you know, cry. |

Yup. Original PCV port location was at left front corner. First slant-6 carburetor to have it in the ~middle of the passenger side was the 1963-only Stromberg WA. By '70 they all had it on the passenger side.Quote: It seems like everything should match up, it just has a different way of working, right?
Assuming the carb is in basically sound shape, yes.

Not too many years, no. That carb has a throttle lever that accepts either the rod or the cable hookup. |

Hey, I've got a question for you Dan... When I was fiddling around with my existing carb, I found a bit of gummy stuff in the hole for the crankcase vent and I was wondering if you had any ideas as to where that might've come from. It seemed like glue or something. Clearish. Very flimsy. I'm wondering if one of the POs tried to block the passage. I thought I'd run it by you and see if you might know of some circumstance where something might've melted or degraded and leaked in there or a GOOD reason why someone would put gummy glue in there. ?? |
