ok i know i need a new carb ( Hope Dan has one next month) but between three bowling tournaments for the kid and one for us this month that's not gonna happen. Plus saving for an 8 state 20 day road trip in June/July makes it tough right now to buy stuff that is not essential.

I for now have rebuilt my carb and pretty sure the float is no good but i guess it could be me messing up the adjustment of the float because it was fine before i took it out for the rebuild. At first there was gas coming out the float bowl vent all the time but that's not happening anymore.

The car starts fine form cold and choke opens as it warms up so the choke system seems to be working fine. Every once in while it will start to run rough and gas starts to drip from the vent tube again but i tap the bowl with a screw driver and is clears right up so i assume that means the float is prob bad.

But the thing that puzzles me and its prob something i did or am doing wrong is that now and then ( more now than then) when i shut it off i hear a small gurgling noise from the carb and when i look in it there is gas continuing to drip in the carb after i shut it off. And when it does this a bit of gas runs out onto the intake from the front of carb where the throttle shaft comes through the front..

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your carb is pretty close to whupped.

The gurgle-and-drip-into-the-carb is percolation. Doing the Fuel line mod will help, as will adding a heat shield between the carb and the intake, and making sure your heat riser valve is not stuck.

The leakage at the throttle shaft is part of what makes me say your carb sounds whupped.

Liquid fuel should never, ever drip or trickle out the bowl vent.
