Post subject: | The whole "less restrictive exhaust" thing |
Hey guys. I'm always reading things in posts in regards to installing a "less restrictive exhaust" to improve mileage and performance. Can someone explain the options regarding this to my uninformed self? Where does one acquire this "less restrictive exhaust"? My car is a stock '73 Valiant. Did earlier Slants have less restrictive exhausts? Is there a recommended or preferred aftermarket option for replacing the exhaust? Just trying to grasp whether this is something I should be hunting for on an earlier Valiant or looking for new online somewhere. Does it refer exclusively to things like dual exhaust or can it apply to more stock-like options? Trying to understand... THANKS!!! -Matt |

We've discussed exhaust systems a lot. Try the search function. 2 1/4" pipe off the stock manifold to a free flowing muffler is what you want if you're looking to keep things affordable. It's custom made or Accurate Ltd to do this. |

The 2 1/4" exhaust started about 1976 in the US with the Feather Duster/Dart Lite program, later when the shift went to the F-body, some versions would get this pipe. This option will require you to get a custom pipe ordered or installed. -D.Idiot |
