Changing trans and rear diff fluid and wanted to make sure I am putting the right amount back in. I looked it up in my fsm and it says the trans holds 3 1/4 pts and the rear 4 pts. I drained both and they had both had more in them than what the manual says. I'm sure both were changed by the previous owner so I'm not sure if he filled it until it came out the fill hole or what. Somehow the rear diff was filled above the plug on the side of the case.

Thanks

He may have jacked the side of the fill hole up in air to fill it hence the over fill situation... and same for trans if it was over filled.... Just a SWAG tho...

The rear is about 1/2" below the fill plug and the trans is about 3/4-1" below. I added what the FSM said and in the case of the rear I sucked out the old fluid so I'm sure I did not get all the old out so I would think there would be 1/4-1/2 qt of extra fluid in it. I just want to make sure I have enough in so I don't damage anything.

Thanks

You are correct in that there's no drain plug on the 8.75. There's a thread around here or over at FABO about retro fitting a drain plug into the bottom of the 8.75 if you choose to do that.
