I need headlight adjuster nuts for a ’64 Valiant. Background: My ’64 Valiant headlights decided to throw an odd pattern Tuesday night. The driver’s side beam went low and inboard. It was not like that when I swapped bulbs and checked the beams earlier this year, or last time I drove at night. The adjusters would not move the beam. Disassembly revealed that the nylon nuts had split. (Pardon the cellphone-quality photos. It’s what I had handy for a camera. Also, I do not know the correct terminology for these parts, so bear with me.) I leave on a short vacation Thursday, and intend to drive the Valiant. Not feeling confident that any local stores would have a replacement, I improvised. This is the back side of the assembly. The oblong nylon tab is riveted to the stamped frame. The adjuster passes through. The field-expedient repair was to put small hose clamps over the nuts, compressing just enough that the threads would hold. So, I am now in the market for replacements. The nylon nuts are not the same as those mentioned in THIS THREAD. Those might work, looking at the general shape of the nut and the opening in the sheetmetal where they fit. I’m not sure of the dimensions or thread. The old adjusters look to be ¼-28 or so. Suggestions? |
