Post subject:	Crappy Paint!
I've been prepping my Dart for paint and other bodywork for a little over a week. Instead of simply roughing up the Yellow and spraying new, I decided to take it back down to primer. What I didn't know was that the original paint was still under the primer for the Yellow.... So my dart currently has 2 coats of original primer, 2 coats of original egg-shell white, 1 coat of primer, 1 coat of yellow, another coat of primer, and 2 more coats of yellow, PLUS the vinyl stripes... too much paint! No wonder my car is so slow! I don't have time to get back down to the original primer, and just for kicks I decided to see if I could chip off the black stripes... they come off.... and so does the yellow! So I've been basically razor blading the entire car to get the yellow and black off.... that is some seriously crappy paint! Anyone else want to vent about their crappy paint? Put it here so I don't feel like I am the only one! ~THOR~

The paint on my 67 valiant is something I don't look forward to get off the car. Most of the car seems to be covered in a thick-ish coat of some filler, and I want to get rid of most of it. Anyway, the paint on it is so hard, 80 grit just scratch it up, gets some heat in it, and turns to some kind of "plastic" that stick to the paper. Paint remover (cheap one) didn't do anything, but it did loosen up the old paint, where I ground thru the outer layer. I can peel off big flakes, if I get under the edge, so it is more or less a layer of hard tough plastic, covering the car. I need to find some nasty stuff to get this prototype battletank paint off, I think.

That stuff was good paint but a pure b*&^h to do anything with when its time to remove... You have discovered the best way to remove it, 'lift' it off in sheets... Sharp razor blades are your best friend @ this point...

You blokes slay me! Wonderful to have such a great sense of humour especially to have a laugh at yourself! Good on ya boys! And yes - I've got crappy paint on my Barracuda - so I know what you mean! Gary

I bought a green '73 Nova Custom (Hatchback) back in 1985/6 from a guy that was PCSing (Permanent Change of Station) to Korea. I bought the Nova and a late 70's (?) Pontiac 4 door for $75! The Pontiac had a bad V6, but was in great shape otherwise. The guy had removed the 350 from the Nova to put in the Pontiac. Naturally, I put it back in, sold the Pontiac as-is for $300 and proceded to drive the "you know what" out of the Nova! It was pretty fast too.. for a few weeks... The guy had removed the lifters for some strange reason (without labelling them), and not knowing what I didn't know at the time, put them back in... The car lost power... Yadda yadda yadda... Sold it as-is for $500... Oh yeah, the PAINT thing! First time I washed it at the car wash the paint all came off in huge sheets! The Auto Craft shop manager was not the least bit pleased about the mess...

My '65 Dart was originally painted white. I has been repainted white at least once with several touch up spots thru the years. The intermediate primer was always dark gray. It is now painted Rustoleum primer brown. I find this paint job to be a very easy to maintain. If something happens a $4.00 can of primer brown fixes it right up.
