So I'm trying to get a head worked up for my current project. I have four candidates in my stash, the first of which is temporarily side-lined (partly due to my own stupidity):

Don't plan to discard that one, but turns out it had other issues so I'm going set it aside for now so I won't lose momentum.

Pulled the plug-tube head (another 2843169 casting) off another 5-freeze-plug, 280683-AM block I have. Over all, this head seems to be in much better shape. Got the engine for free: the previous owner wanted to swap in a 318 and said the slant had "spun a bearing".

Noticed a Maltese cross stamped on the block ID pad when I pulled the head, which should mean that at least one of the crank and or rod journals came undersized from the factory. There should be factory stamping on the center crank lobe indicating which journal(s) are undersized, correct?

When I open up the bottom end, will be curious to see if it was one of the factory undersized ones that spun the bearing. Of course, without service records, really no telling what might've been done to this engine when and by whom along the way.

I wouldn't trust the stampings, if altered you may have a reground crank from a previous overhaul. The only real way to tell is to get a decent set of micrometers and mic the journals and mic the bearings with the mains torqued to get an idea if they have been replaced.
