I have a 69 valiant that i play with at my local dragstrip,it has 411 gears a hughes 3000 stall,and a 904 with a shift kit. My guestion is i building a 225 cast crank super six that is 60 over been balanced with arp rod bolts, has a peanut head with .090 shaved off with stock three degree valve job. The piston is 160 down in the hole and the head is 47cc. just need a cam and the motor in finish.it has a 2 barrel with 2 1/4 exhaust,car weight is 2840 with me in it for now! P.S. building a k1 wisco long rod motor also.... u can see the car @ lakecumberlanddragway.com |

Looking at the midrange cams like the RV15 from ERson, the RV10 or Comp 252 if going on the very conservative side...You're about 9.2:1 static with high winding gears and convertor...The BBD super six carb will be the bottle neck in the equation, you will be starting to look at going to the Mr. Gasket 1937 with a 350 cfm Holley for max output on your combo. You might be able to just barely run the Erson 270/270 as long as they grind it 111+4 LSA...and it is installed that way. -D.Idiot |

Yes, you could really use a bigger carb. A Holley 500 2bbl will work well too, or the 350 DI mentioned. With that combo on the dragstrip, I would use a bigger cam - like the Erson 280/270 cam, or even the Oregon Cams 234/226 @ 0.050" cam. In my book, the Erson 270 is barely above stock. Lou |

I get 9.188 using a .038 head gasket & 9.5 to 1 of you use a .020 shim gasket. That static compression will give a 8.10 to 8.37 DCR when used with a cam that has a IC (Intake Closing) at 50 ABDC. (about right for "street / strip") When selecting a cam, always calculate the IC & DCR for your combo. DD |

You will need to base your cam selection on the info Doc just gave you, so without knowing what the individual cam companies have for their specs in this matter, its going to be up to you to ask them what cams they have available that fit this criteria. |

Find-out the Intake Valve Closing point (IC) for any cam you look at and use that number in this calculator to figure-out your DCR. (ask if you need any of the other values like a 4.125 stroke or the 6.7 inch con rod length) DD http://www.kb-silvolite.com/calc.php?action=comp |

my cam update...i called erson and told them my info and they said cam E470621 would be a good cam for me????? |

That's the 270/270 cam...I think that would be OK, it should have a couple more ft/lbs of torque on the low end, if you intend to spin the engine hgih then the 280/270 would work better...The BBD is going to go flat in the upper rpms so you need to decide on the cam and your final carb configuration. -D.Idiot |
