Well , I pulled the electronic dist. Because it had no vacuum or centrifugal advance, I mean NADA!!!! I ran across a dist. from a 71 van, cleaned it up, new points and condenser, and you can really feel the improvement. Next couple of days i will figure out the rear end ratio. Somehow I believe it is a 3.21. Then mayhaps i will look for a new camshaft. My throwout bearing is also whining, can I grease it or is it sealed?

Throwout bearing making noise = replace it. While you are in there, just go ahead and do the clutch if you can afford it!

Points & condenser start degrading the instant you first crank the engine after installing them. Get an electronic distributor with vacuum advance and do the HEI upgrade; as much an improvement over the lean burn (non advancing) distributor as your present setup is, the HEI will be that much better than your present setup.

ON my 71 truck I had the Pertronix set-up. Once installed I didn't touch it. Had that for 7years.
