This is what I've got. '68 /6 from Canada with a rebuilt '62-'66 bbs carb (original '68 bbs was junk) and new exhaust manifold with the open side choke stove pocket. What choke stat do I need that will fit the open side choke pocket? The one off the '68 bbs will not fit correctly into the stove pocket (rubs on the closed side off the pocket and all the holes do not match up) . Also, is it alright to use the '68 throttle body from the original '68 Canadian bbs carb on the new '62-'66 bbs I now have? I have to use the '68' throttle body for the correct vacuum setups. Can I make this happen with all these mix matched years? Thanks guys! ![]() |

'62-'66 vacuum provisions are identical to '68; only difference is absence of hook-in for the throttle plate hot air feed which per other post is not needed (and not supported by your new exhaust manifold). You can go ahead and use '62-'66 throttle body. Just cap the small fitting on the underside of the air cleaner base plate. "Remanufactured" carburetors tend to work poorly. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. Choke thermostat: The best idea is a #1231 Electric choke kit. The only factory-type thermostat that will work with your carb and exhaust manifold is the '73-only choke thermostat (plus power modulator, but that's got wider interchange). And that factory item is non-adjustable, while the electric choke kit is fully adjustable. |

The '68 has the distibutor vacuum, the hot air feed vacuum and vacuum to the valve cover. The '62-'66 does not have the valve cover vacuum hook up. should I connect the valve cover hose to the hot air feed location?

What you are calling "vacuum to the valve cover" is the PCV line. If your "1962-'66" carburetor does not have that hookup, it is in fact a '60-'61 (plus '62 without optional PCV) carburetor. Not a good choice, and no, swapping on the throttle body with the PCV provision isn't a good way forward, either. And also no, the throttle plate hot air feed is not adequate for the PCV hookup.You'll need a carburetor that is more correct for the application. |
