Post subject: | Odd exhaust ports!!! |
I pulled the exhaust manifold off my 84 Dodge p/u, and saw that the #6 port appeared to be half plugged. It appeared that when the head was cast the port"caved in"!! No wonder ol' red cant run worth a hoot! Should I try to open the port or swap heads? Plz don't ask for pix, I don't have an iPad 2. Suggestions anyone? I have to say that /6 are scarce here in west Texas, can't find one to rebuild...... |

i would go with a new head. if the runner collapsed by time you get it opened up to where it should be you will be in the water jacket. are you positive its metal? repeated short runs will build up soot that will turn solid over the years if not cleaned. |

Whack it with a chisel see if it's metal. |

I checked with a magnet and sure enough it's metal. It appears that about 20 percent of the port is covered, so I think I'll wait til I get another rebuilder engine and try to overhaul it. No wonder ol' Red runs out of steam so quick . That and the semi flat camshaft just ain't workin'! Stay tuned for more adventures as mexicanjoe tries to fix his ride!!!! |
