Post subject:  Power Steering Pump Alignment

I have an 87 Dodge D-100 with four on the floor,2 wd,no a/c. We are getting in the end rows with this truck but is giving me fits with the power steering pump alignment. The engine I put in the truck is an 85. The ps pump that was in the truck is sitting to far forward and will not align with the existing pulleys on the engine. My question for any one with a pu is do I need a double pulley on the fan? I have a single now. It appears if I had a double pulley It may align properly. Another question I guess I should have asked is what pulleys drive the pump. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On my 82 the power steering is driven off a third pulley that bolts onto the balancer, and the water pump is driven off the second pulley groove that's made into the damper. The one closest to the engine is used to run the A/C and smog pump.

Mind posting any pics of what you currently have?

On the cars also there is a pulley that bolts to the front of the balancer
for the only belt for power steering. I have a bucket full of these, I'd send you one for the cost of shipping if needed.

Thanks Jeb and Dusteridiot! I was thinking ps pump was driven from dual grooved pulley on fan hub. But if there is a pulley that bolts on the damper that would make sense. I will try and get some photos in the next day or two. I have my truck at my friends shop and I am done wrenching for the day. Ready for a cold one. Jeb do you have an 82 p u ? What trans do you have?

Yup, the setup described (frontmost crank pulley sheave for power steering drive, centre sheave for water pump and alternator drive, rearmost sheave for A/C drive) is how it was done in most if not all slant-6 applications.

Duuuhhh! your info is in your sig!! I was not paying attention. Any way When I was doing this engine swap I do not remember seeing the ps drive pully on the crank. Was there another set up possible? What Dan was talking about makes the most sense. I believe Jeb mentioned he had a box full of these pullys. I will try to get picture up in the next couple of days. During the week it is difficult for me to get over to my shop.
