Post subject:  Which exhaust housing should i get

OK I'm thinking about a new turbo and I'm wondering which housing option I should get it will be a T4 flange precision 6262 its the same turbo shaker223 is running with great success but I'm torn between the..58 ar or..68 ar exhaust housing I'm SLANTED toward the 58 because I want it to spool hard and fast but I don't want it to run out of steam on me but the 68 may be Alittle on the big side I don't believe I can go wrong with either one but I figured I better ask before I drop some major coin and be upset that I made the wrong decision
What do you guys think my best option is
Thanks always Aaron

My feeling is that the bigger housing would work well with a high enough stall convertor. Of course if you're racing you can load the convertor and spool the turbo, but on the street or with a tight convertor the smaller turbine housing is going to be more fun even if the ET and top speed take a small hit.

Josha I'm running a 3200 stall and I'm thinking about 12 to 15 pounds of boost coming off the line and about 25 pounds through the trap but I want something that will pull me through the slant power range and be at or around full boost pressure at 5500 rpms

I'm using the 63ar housing pte6262 dbb spools fast as hell for me, tom uses the 63ar also and hes run much more boost than I have, without the turbo running out of breathe as far as i know.

Yup....what he said. The problem will be holding the car back. I have a 175 Mopar convertor. If I recall, it is rated 2500rpm stall with a BB. Pushing the front wheels becomes the issue but I can make it stall at 3300-3500 no problem.

TOM at about what rpm are you starting to make boost and how much boost pressure are you making at your shift points

I'm kind of leaning toward the 68 ar exhaust housing with the ball bearing center section I shouldn't have any problems making the kind of boost I'm after through the slants power range

Boost starts fairly low before 2500 rpm and builds very quickly.

Here is a vid with the original engine.

Wow that video was cool I haven't seen that one that thing builds boost quick about how much boost are you leaving the line with and at what rpm
I can't make my mind up on what size housing to order? I'm wanting a good 60 foot time and I want it to launch hard and pull me through the traps
But I don't think I'll have a problem with either one but I just don't want the extra expense of changing it over after I'm done

I had skinny tires there and left with about 4psi. With the larger tires, I was leaving at about 8psi and managed a 1.57 60ft. I know there is more in it to leave harder...just have not made it to the track.

Yah tom life has a way of making things difficult I still would love to meet up one day this summer if you can find the time to get to the track I'd even come out your way once I get this money pit going lol
Tom if you had your choice of the two different housing which one would you start with I can always change them over to a different size but funds are getting tight so I'd prefer to make the right decision based on experience not guessing
All help is always appreciated

What is your redline? Are you going to street drive it? Lots of things to consider.

I have no issues with the .63. Fast spool up when I want and good around town too. Best of both worlds.

To be honest, I have not checked my back pressure to see if it is holding me back (between head and turbo).
